Sports Official Location: Various locations including Gosnold’s Hope Park, Lindsay Middle School, Kilgore Gifted Center, Darling Stadium, and Thomas Eaton Middle School in Hampton, VA. Position type: Independent Contractor Pay rate: $35 per game Skills Required: Previous officiating experience or sports related experience as a coach or player. No experience? No problem! We will get you certified. Job Description We're seeking a dedicated and professional Sports Official who embodies integrity, fairness, and composure under pressure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of the sport’s rules, make quick and confident decisions, and communicate clearly with players, coaches, and fellow officials. Physical fitness, mental focus, and emotional resilience are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively as part of an officiating team. A passion for the sport and a commitment to continuous improvement are highly valued. As a Sports official, you are responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of a game to ensure fair play and the safety of all participants. Your duties include starting and stopping play, making judgment calls on infractions, assessing penalties, and keeping track of the game’s progress (such as time, score, and player conduct). Officials must communicate clearly with players, coaches, and other officials, manage conflicts or disputes that arise during the game, and maintain control of the event to ensure it runs smoothly and within established guidelines.
